OUR MISSION

Sweet Dreams MicroHomes was created to be more than a company building homes. We are a company built on integrity, compassion for others, and the belief that everyone deserves a home. We believe that giving back to others is an essential part of being a community member and that a home can transform lives. We promise that we will face the issue of homelessness and affordable housing straight on and embrace our responsibility to help everyone achieve the American Dream - home ownership!

HOUSING &
EDUCATION
17.jpg

Working directly with Career and Technical Education programs in Vermont and the Vermont Department of Corrections, Sweet Dreams MicroHomes is supporting Vermont's most valuable resource, its people, by helping them gain the skills, technical knowledge, academic foundation, and real-world experience they need to prepare for high-skill, high-demand, and high-wage careers in housing construction and manufacturing. These individuals will build affordable and transitional housing in support of community housing objectives. Sweet Dreams MicroHomes will provide company-based apprentice programming, training in a variety of construction skills, and office-related applications while providing transitional housing for employees with housing needs.

ECONOMIC
IMPACT

The development of a modular housing manufacturing facility will reinvigorate local manufacturing, promote an increased sense of economic opportunity, retain young community members with good-paying manufacturing jobs while combating the decline of local community populations, and offer a solution to the high cost of affordable housing in rural communities. Our education and housing manufacturing concepts will address key regional issues, community housing needs, and high-wage job creation in an effort to stimulate economic development.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Our motto is: "It all starts with a conversation!" Our company goal is to provide financial, job, and housing stability to community members desiring higher wages in a manufacturing company. To reach this goal, Sweet Dreams MicroHomes partners with a diverse group of local organizations supporting housing, job creation, and family support services. Our goal of ending homelessness in Vermont will not happen without community partnerships between for-profit and nonprofit organizations. It is our desire to build relationships between these organizations so they can work together to solve this housing issue.

OUR FOUNDING PARTNERS

Every start-up organization needs help, support, and early believers in its mission. Sweet Dreams MicroHomes is no different. We would not be where we are today without the generosity and commitment of our early supporters to our mission and community. We firmly believe that community partnerships create opportunity and allow organizations to address community issues at the ground level. We are pleased to highlight three community businesses that stepped forward to support us in our very early days of bringing a modular housing manufacturing company to life. Without them, we would not be on the verge of building affordable microhomes to support the homeless and our community members. We cannot thank them enough for their support in these early days.

William Hansen, Jr. / Owner

Bill Hansen, Jr., is a young, local housing designer creating unique styled buildings and homes in the Northeast Kingdom region. Seeking someone to support our community-based initiatives, we approached Bill in 2020 about a unique concept in house design and building techniques. Lacking funds to pay for his architectural services, Bill and his staff donated their time and skills during the past two years to help us create our micro-home model. Bringing a fresh perspective and a conviction to help people within his community, Bill and his team have created a modular house design that allows the home to expand and grow with a family as its circumstances and finances allow. We wanted to thank them personally here on our website for all their help and support as we bring this nonprofit modular housing company to life.

We are firm believers that a simple conversation can be the start of something positive and lead to great things. Sweet Dreams MicroHomes' search for a fiscal agent was no different. Turned down by six local nonprofits and regional agencies, our founder found himself having a conversation with local businessman Rick Desrochers. It was during this conversation that Rick and Jim thought that Vermont North Rural Economic Development, a local nonprofit organization would be a good fit and a supporter of the Sweet Dreams MicroHomes modular housing concept. After a series of meetings, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the two organizations on January 7, 2023 and the process to develop affordable housing moved forward.

All it takes in developing a concept into a business is the support of one person or entity. Autumn Moon Farm was just that business for us. The farm was looking to develop and diversify other revenue aside from traditional farm products. Housing was a community issue as well as a farm issue. So over the course of 2024 and 2025, Sweet Dreams MicroHomes and Autumn Moon Farm worked on a plan for local community housing to support the housing issue. We are excited that through this effort Autumn Moon Farm is developing a multi-unit co-housing concept on 6 acres. More information about this exciting development will be coming in the 2026.  Check our website from time to time to find out the progress of this development and to see when you can tour our various housing models.

One dollar. One tree. This organization's mission is simple and straight forward. They plant one tree for every dollar donated. We will support this effort with a donation of $150 for each house we build to plant seedlings as a continued reforestation project from the the forests where we purchase our logs. It takes approximately 150 trees to build our homes and as a responsible company we will continue to support reforestation efforts.

The Halo Foundation was created in 2011 by Mary E. Wright's family who recognized a need to assist Orleans County residents who have been diagnosed with cancer. The Halo Foundation commits 100% of all donations and money raised to assist cancer patients and their families.
